An adult male patient visited me interested in replacing six crowns on his upper front teeth. They were originally placed 18 years ago due to the effects of grinding his teeth. He was unhappy with the size, shade and general appearance of the crowns. The original crowns had a layer of metal under the porcelain that was affecting the esthetics, in addition to being too short and narrow for his smile.

diagnosis

Crowns are recommended for teeth that have lost a large amount of their structural integrity due to issues such as a large cavity, a fracture or grinding. They cover the entire tooth protecting it from further damage. They can also be used to improve aesthetics by altering the shape, length, width and color of the porcelain.

treatment

The patient’s original crowns were removed, and he received a temporary set for approximately two weeks, while his new crowns were created. They were then replaced with crowns made of all porcelain. This is a painless process, and the length of the procedures corresponds to the number of crowns being placed.

results

With these new crowns, I was able to increase the length of the patient’s teeth, close the space between the two front teeth, and alter the shade. By making these changes I was able to give him a much more esthetic and natural looking smile. He was extremely happy with the final results.
