Ways to Reduce the Risk of Cavities

March 06, 2023

If you want to learn how to reduce the risk of dental cavities, follow these tips below and start adding them to you and your child’s oral hygiene routine today!

Tip #1: Brush and Floss Twice Daily!

Brush your teeth at least twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and to clean between your teeth, you can use floss or dental picks. Parents should supervise children when brushing until they are 7 or 8 years old as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Tip #2: Rinse Your Mouth

Dentists recommend adding a fluoride rinse to your oral health routine to help reduce the risk of getting cavities. Supervise your children when they’re rinsing to ensure that they are not swallowing the fluoride rinse.

Tip #3: Avoid Frequent Snacking and Sipping

If you snack or sip on drinks often, especially drinks that are acidic, can put your tooth enamel at risk. Switch out some sugary and acidic drinks with water in between meals and snack times.

Tip #4: Drink Tap Water that Contains Fluoride

Did you know that in 2018, 78% of the US population on community water systems had access to fluoridated water? If you are either connected to a community water system or have access to drinking water from one, the fluoride in the water will help strengthen enamel.

Tip #5: Schedule Yearly Dentist Visits

Our final tip is to schedule an appointment with your Park Dental dentists! Remember it is important for both you and your child to visit every 6 months.

With these few tips in mind, we hope that you’re ready to take charge of you and your child’s oral health! You can request an appointment here on our website or call your local Park Dental practice to meet with your dentist.

Why do some doctors not have a star rating or comments?

In order to provide our patients with the most accurate and beneficial information, we only post star ratings and comments for a doctor once they have received a minimum of 30 surveys within the previous 12 months.
