5 Facts About Children’s Oral Health

February 01, 2023

Did you know that February is Children’s Dental Health Month? We put together a list of a few facts about children’s dental health to kick off the month!

  • Tooth brushing should start after the first tooth appears – you can use a rice sized amount of fluoride toothpaste to brush the tooth. For your baby, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends cleaning your baby’s gums with a clean damp cloth after each feeding. Talk to your child’s dentist about the right amount of fluoride for your child.
  • Childhood tooth decay is the most common illness in children – cavities are 5 times more likely than childhood asthma.
  • Four in five children are visiting the dentist regularly – this is a great start, but we would like to see more children at the dentist on a regular basis. Call your Park Dental practice or use our online scheduler to request an appointment!
  • You can reduce the risk of getting cavities! Eat healthy foods, get sealants if possible, and use fluoride toothpaste to help decrease the chance of getting cavities.
  • Sports are a big cause of dental injuries – Did you know that sports injuries are responsible for 13 to 39 percent of all dental injuries to children? Remember to have your children wear a mouth guard when participating in contact sports or leisure activities!

We hope that these few facts about children’s dental health inspire you to schedule an appointment with your Park Dental practice today! Be on the look out for future blog posts revolving around February’s Children’s Dental Health Month!

In order to provide our patients with the most accurate and beneficial information, we only post star ratings and comments for a doctor once they have received a minimum of 30 surveys within the previous 12 months.
